The Value of Dance

Learning to dance is really learning the language of silent communication. People learn to express themselves through the movement of their bodies. Joy, freedom, power, and confidence can all be conveyed when we move to music. Additionally, dancers in couple dancing learn to communicate with each other without words. A touch, a gesture, eye contact, a subtle shift in muscle tension -- all these cues and more co-create a shared and improvisational creative conversation between partners. The Westies promote and fortify these lessons through our dance classes and events.

Supporting our nonprofit is a meaningful way to promote a more connected local community.

West Coast swing is also one of the first de-gendered dances, meaning the roles of lead and follow are no longer ascribed to outdated gender expectations. Our group fully supports all humans both roles of partner dancing in order to enhance their overall skills. We provide a safe and welcoming space for all beings.
